Configure Android to use UCSD-Protected Wireless Service


Overview


Follow these steps to set up your Android device running Android 6.0.x and above for use on the WPA2-E encrypted campus wireless at UC San Diego, UCSD-PROTECTED.

Steps to Take


1. Configure Wi-Fi

  1. On your Android, go to Settings.
  2. Select Wi-Fi.
  3. Under Wi-Fi, select UCSD-PROTECTED
    • If UCSD-PROTECTED isn't on the list, you may need to move to another area with better connectivity.

2. Configure UCSD-PROTECTED options

  1. EAP Method: Select PEAP.
  2. Phase 2 Authentication: Select MSCHAPV2.
  3. For CA certificate, there are two options depending on your Android version:
    1. Select N/A, (unspecified), or Do not validate.
    2. Select Use system certificates.
      1. Domain: ucsd.edu
  4. Identity field: Enter your Active Directory username.
  5. Anonymous Identity field: Leave blank.
  6. Wireless Password field: Enter your Active Directory password.
  7. MAC Address Type (Android 10 and above): Phone Mac.
  8. Click Connect.

3. Verify connection

  1. Under Wi-Fi, you should see Connected to UCSD-PROTECTED
  2. You will now be able to navigate the web on the UCSD-Protected network.
