Log in to Canvas


Overview


The following instructions are written for UCSD main campus Canvas (canvas.ucsd.edu) and may not apply to other instances of Canvas affiliated with the university. (See Other Instances of Canvas, below, for more information)

To access UCSD main campus courses on Canvas, visit canvas.ucsd.edu* and log in with your Active Directory (AD) username and password. Canvas, email, the UCSD-PROTECTED wireless network, Virtual Private Network (VPN), and ETS computer labs use AD to authenticate users. Your AD account is automatically set up by Educational Technology Services (ETS) or your department when you come to campus.

Once you are logged in to Canvas you should automatically load into your Canvas Dashboard where a list of your currently enrolled courses appear.

Other Instances of Canvas

*Please note, the website "canvas.ucsd.edu" only applies to main campus courses. There are other instances of Canvas that relate to other affiliated groups at UCSD. 

Rady School of Management: Rady hosts their upper-division courses (200+) on their own instance of Canvas. The website for Rady Canvas is rady.instructure.com

UCSD Extension: All of UCSD Extension's courses are hosted on their own instance of Canvas. The website for UCSD Extension Canvas is extensioncanvas.ucsd.edu

  

Critical Concepts


Canvas sites are created automatically for all standard UC San Diego courses near the start of the quarter. The instructor of record will receive automated access and will be notified via email when the site is ready. However, students will not see the course until the instructor makes the course available.


Access


Faculty and Staff

Username: Your username is the first part of your email address, without “@ucsd.edu”.  Use the username officially assigned to you. Do not use an alias as a login.

Password: If you cannot log in, you may need to change your password. Still having trouble logging in?  Submit a ticket or contact the ITS Service Desk at (858) 246-4357.

Access: You will have access once a course site has been created for you on Canvas or once you have been added to an existing course site.

Students

Username: Your username is the first part of your email address, without “@ucsd.edu”. To find your username, use the Account Lookup Tool. Concurrently-enrolled students during Fall, Winter, or Spring quarter, click here for concurrent account information.

Password: If you cannot login or cannot remember your password, you may need to do a global password change. Use the Global Password Change tool.

Access: Regardless of whether or not you're currently enrolled in a course, if you have AD credentials, you should be able to log into Canvas
